Remembrance: Dick Newton

Newport Rotary's thoughts and prayers are with the Newton family today on word of Dick's passing. The funeral is Sunday, February 16, 2014 at 2pm at St. James Methodist Church.

Richard “Dick” Newton, 79, of Newport, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014, at home, with family.
His service is at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. James United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tom Supplee officiating. He is survived by his wife, Susan Newton; two daughters, Susan Elaine Davis and husband Bobby of Frankfort, Ind., and Sarah Matthews of Silverdale, Wash.; four sons, Jeff Newton and wife Chris, Larry Newton and wife Deanna and Rick Newton and wife Missy, all of Kokomo, Ind., and Daniel Newton and wife Chrystina of Hopewell, Va.; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Janet Eaton of Fort Myers, Fla.; and one brother, Jacque Newton of Holly Hill, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Waters Newton; son, Darren Newton; parents, Maurice and Lawanna Newton; and brother, Gene Newton.
Family will receive friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. James United Methodist Church Community Life Center or thrift store, P.O. Box 250, Newport, N.C. 28570.
