Newport Rotarians Deliver Food to Food Pantries
On January 14, 2013 the Newport Rotary Club held Service Projects at two locations collecting food for the needy, to be distributed by local food pantries. Food pantry shelves were bare after the "holiday rush".
A truckload of non-perishable items items was delivered to Martha's Mission Cupboard in Morehead City on January 16 by Pam Wall from the Town and Country IGA collection site. Several carts of groceries were delivered from the Red & White Food Store location by Pres. Steve Blizzard to the Matthew 25 Fund at St. James Methodist Church later in the week. Thanks to all the Rotarians who supported this needed endeavor. Also, thanks for the owners of Town & Country and Red & White for supporting our project.

Next 6 Months: Rotary Awareness Program
The program on January 8, 2013 was led by PDG Bevin Wall, and centered on club programming and activities over the next 6 months and their effect on awareness of Rotary in the Newport community.
In summary, the consensus is that (1) regular meals are important, (2) having as many programs at our building at our regular date/time Monday nights 6:30pm is important, (3) the individual meal costs burden is satisfactory, (4) alternate "eat-out" opportunities should be tried, (5) our service meetings need to be numerous and visible.
As a result the Club Calendar at the "Upcoming Events" tab has been updated for January 2013- June 2013. A new page entitled "Meeting Duties" has been posted outlining the individual Rotarian's club responsibilities during that time frame.
Every active Rotarian has exactly one meal payment responsibility during this time period, exactly one clean-up responsibility, and at least one program responsibility. Additionally, some Rotarians are asked to coordinate one additional meal to be paid "dutch" by the group. Also, some Rotarians are asked to coordinate one additional service activity (non-program).
Please note the meal and clean-up schedule does differ from the July 2012-June 2013 Schedule previously posted. The old schedule should not be used and has been taken off the website. Please contact Bevin or President Steve if you have questions.
