Newport Rotarian Receives Rotary Foundation Award

Newport Rotarian Bevin Wall was recognized by the Trustees of The Rotary Foundation with its Citation for Meritorious Service during the club's regular meeting on June 23, 2008. The award, The Rotary Foundation's second highest award for significant service to The Foundation and its programs, was presented by District Governor Wilson Ray.

"This award is presented to less than 200 Rotarians annually" said Governor Ray, who also indicated it was only the ninth time the award had been presented to a District 7730 Rotarian in over 40 years.

Rotarian Wall, who served as District Governor for Southeast North Carolina in 2002-03, is completing a three year term as the District's Rotary Foundation Chair, responsible for fundraising efforts for the Annual Programs Fund, Permanent Fund, and Polio Eradication effort, and managing subcommittees operating Group Study Exchange teams, Inyternational Matching Grants, District Simplified Grants, Ambassadorial Scholars, Polio Awareness, and Foundation Alumni. Wall is is a past recipient of Rotary International's Service Above Self Award, the highest award presented by the organization for individual humanitarian service to others through Rotary. Earlier this year he led the Newport Rotary Club in becoming a 100% Paul Harris Fellow Club, one of less than 500 among the 32,000 Rotary clubs in the world, and only the second in District 7730. DG Ray praised the club for "exemplifying what Rotary is all about", with its traditions, spirit and support of the Foundation.

Marilyn Everett, an Administrative Assistant at EDA PA Architects, was also inducted into the club by Bevin Wall, her sponsor, as assisted by District Governor Ray.

For the presentation Wall was joined by his wife, Pam, and daughter, Madison. Also participating in the presentation was Past District Governor Derryl Garner of Newport. Guests attending the presentation were DFL Bobbie Ray of Red Springs, District Governor Elect Lee Dixon, and Assistant Governor Andy Chused of Morehead City.
