Valentine's Celebration Details Announced

The club's Valentine's Celebration is set for 6:30pm on Monday night, February 11, 2013 at the Newport Rotary Building. Rodney Kemp is the Speaker. 

Winston Reese advises that Bena Weires will be catering the following fare: Baked ham, Turkey and stuffing casserole, Green beans, Collards, Candied sweet potatoes, Deviled eggs, Light rolls, Sweet potato biscuits and Red velvet cake for dessert. 

Secretary Joe says $12.00 per Rotarian/Guest is due at the door. 

Preview of the Gloucester Mardi Gras

Newport Rotary enjoyed a preview of the Gloucester Mardi Gras during its regular meeting on February 4, 2013 at the Newport Rotary Club.

Program Chair Joe Garner introduced Barbara and Brian Blake, two of The Unknown Tongues, the Cajun Zydeco Band that is key to organizing the event. They described the origins of the festival, previewed some of the attractions, and played three songs illustrating different styles of music prevalent in Louisiana. You may enjoy a video clip below.

Barbara Blake was a Rotary Foundation Group Study Exchange Team Member to Bolivia about 10 years ago, and recounted that it was one of the highlight experiences of her life.
